Venue refers to the court, or forum, where a litigation takes place. Venue rules for the federal courts are found in 28 USC § 1391 and each state has rules concerning venue, too.
Factors affecting venue may include, among other things, the residence of the parties to the case and the place where the events underlying the litigation occurred.
