Restatements are summaries, or syntheses of the law written by experts.  For example, the Restatement (Second) of Contracts provides experts’ explanation, summary, and examples of  the law of contracts in the United States.

Restatements tend to be influential.  Judges and attorneys will often consult and cite the Restatement to support an argument as to the proper interpretation of the law.
